Should you be on Large Farm Service?
The hour of day does not change what you pay here — the month does. Running the same house through the full year, July costs about $185 and February about $99. That $87 swing is part rate and part weather, and it is the reason a budget built on your spring bill will break in July.
Before a single kilowatt-hour moves, this plan charges $122 a year in fixed fees. On the apartment above that is 14% of the whole bill; on the house with a car charging in it, 6%. Fixed charges are invisible in a cents-per-kWh comparison and they punish small users hardest — if you use very little electricity, the headline rate is the least important number on this page.

Eligibility is not our judgement — it is written into the tariff Alabama Power filed. This is what that document says:
Applicable to all service to premises of a Consumer if such premises are devoted to productive farming. Related residential service may be furnished through the same meter if desired. Not applicable if the Consumer is engaged primarily in processing or commercial operations, as distinguished from farm production. Service shall not be resold or shared with others.
